Colleagues,

I have been asked to present on behalf of CMIF to the first meeting of the Canada/Mexico Mining Working Group, a network of senior officials from both countries interested in cooperation/information sharing. My role is to outline some of the challenges that make Canada a difficult place to operate, as a way of opening up a dialogue with the Mexicans on some of the challenges that make Mexico a difficult place to operate as well.

If you have any feedback on the (very draft) presentation, please check the drop box link below and let me know by end of day Monday, with apologies for the short notice.

Thanks all,

Nadim

And:

Colleagues,

Two of PDAC’s key pre-budget 2017 recommendations to the Federal Government are the renewal of the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC) and maintenance of the flow-through shares system.  As the Department of Finance is reviewing all tax expenditures, including METC and the flow-through shares system, the maintenance of the super flow-through shares system is less certain than it has been in previous years. As such, PDAC has implemented a vigorous government relations campaign to support their renewal.

Through our advocacy work, PDAC has been advised that an effective way to raise the profile of this issue and gain support is by having members of industry send customized letters of support to the Ministers of Finance and Natural Resources. To that end, I am writing to request if you, on behalf of your Association, would write a letter of support to these two Ministers.

We have provided some content (below) that you may find useful in writing your letter.

We are not calling for a massive, widespread letter writing campaign. If, however, there are 3-5 member companies that you think could make a compelling case for flow-through financing, please forward them the attached letter and ask them to personalize it, perhaps adding examples of how their company has used flow-through financing and how those funds have helped their company to make discoveries and/or improve knowledge of existing discoveries. It would also be helpful if they could comment on what the impact of losing the ability to raise flow-through would have on their company and on exploration in Canada.

Given the short timelines for federal Budget planning, it would be helpful if your letters were submitted ASAP, or no later than November 30, 2016. The attached content includes address information for the Ministers. I would also appreciate it if you cc Deanna Pagnan (copied above) so we have a record of the letters of support.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Deanna.

Thanks all,

Nadim
