A new Manitoba national park was announced in the 2017 federal budget. This is a park area that has been discussed before for a national park but the First Nations at Grand Rapids did not agree with it and the proposal went away. It appears to be back now and this is a very serious concern for us as this area contains the buried extension of the Thompson Nickel belt. We will have to be diligent in opposing this park where we feel we have concerns. Although there are no mines presently in the area, that does not mean we may not find one 50-100 years from today.
