About Minerals Week:
Manitoba Mineral Week 2024 was from May 20 to 24th. This year we featured Manitoba’s high purity silica sand.
Participants and sponsors were essential to help us demonstrate the value of mineral exploration to all Manitobans.
Mineral Week is our opportunity to tell Manitobans about the enormous mineral endowment on our doorstep waiting to be discovered and the opportunity we have to lead the green revolution through our development of critical minerals.
Lobby Day Event for Minerals Week:
On Tuesday, May 21st the MPDA celebrated Minerals/Mining Week in Manitoba by hosting a number of events at the Manitoba Legislature for “Lobby Day”
The following was done on Lobby Day:
- Distribution of custom-made silica sand vail gift boxes to each member of the legislature.
- Statements were be made regarding exploration and extraction from Members for the record.
- Meetings with Ministers, MLA’s and Deputy Ministers to introduce them to the opportunities of a robust dynamic mineral sector.
- Hosting a reception at the legislature for MLAs, staff, deputy ministers and industry at the end of the day.
The Lobby Day team that met at the legislature included MaryAnn Mihychuk, Kevin Gamble, Jim Campbell, Dennis Ballard, Tim Friesen, Nathan Vreyborg, Jamie Barker, Adam Subject, Chief Vincent Tacan, Garry Thorne, and staff Serena Komonko & Hannah Mihychuk.
The team had 7 meetings with key decision makers throughout Lobby Day including the Premier Wab Kinew, Minister Jamie Moses, the PC Caucus, MLA JD Devgan, MLA Mark Wasyliw, MLA Renée Cable, & MLA Cindy Lamoureux.
Participation in Lobby Day:
Members of MPDA or sponsors were invited to participate in meetings with Manitoba’s political leaders and decision makers for Lobby Day on May 21st. Pre-registration was required to join a team for Lobby Day.
All members of the MPDA and sponsors were invited to the Lobby Day Reception, held in the Rotunda of the Manitoba Legislative building from 4:00pm – 6:00pm on the 21st. No registration or RSVP was required to attend the reception.
