Norm Mercer talks about the boom in Newfoundland & Labrador

2021 was a banner year for the mineral industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, with over 800 mineral exploration applications last year. Exploration expenditures nearly doubled from 2020, to just over $127 million. Mineral claim staking activity reached its highest point since the Voisey’s Bay claims 25 years ago. The value of mineral shipments were the highest ever recorded.

On Tuesday April 5th we heard from Kate Parkinson from Sandvic speak about the changes that are taking place in the mining industry with regards to Battery Electric vehicles across Canada.

Electric vehicles are critical to mining reaching net zero, with diesel vehicles accounting for 30%-50% of greenhouse emissions at a mine site.
